Application Procedures
Dust suppression is simple, cost effective and environmentally safe using the following procedures. For best results, send a sample of the soil or aggregate that creates a dusting problem to Price & Company so that a simple bench test [no cost] can be performed to determine which type of Silt Stop will generate the highest reduction in dust formation.
Emulsion Forms of Silt Stop [600 Series]
Mixing can be accomplished with or without mechanical agitation within the tank. Therefore, either water trucks or hydraulic seeding/mulching equipment can be used.
Step 1: Fill tank at least half full before introducting Silt Stop,
Step 2: Pour the appropriate quantity of Silt Stop into the water,
Step 3: Continue adding water as desired, and
Step 4: Continue to mix for 1-2 minutes before applying.
Notes:
1. Standard mix ratio: add 0.5 gallon of Silt Stop to 1000 gallons of water. DO NOT EXCEED a mix ratio of 1.0 gallon of Silt Stop per 1000 gallons of water as the viscosity of the resulting mix may affect spraying efficiency or cause equipment damage.
2. For equipment having internal mechanical agitation, allow the agitation to operate as Silt Stop is added and continue agitating for 1-2 minutes after all water and Silt Stop have been added.
3. For equipment without internal agitation, use water hose nozzle pressure to agitate throughout the Silt Stop and remaining water introduction steps.
Granulated forms of Silt Stop [700 Series]
Only equipment having internal mechanical agitation should be used. Typically, a hydraulic seeder/mulcher is deployed for these applications.
Step 1: Fill tank at least half full before introducing Silt Stop,
Step 2: Slowly sprinkle the appropriate quantity of Silt Stop into the water as the agitator is operating [typically requires 3-5 minutes for the addition],
Step 3: Continue adding water as desired with agitator operating, and
Step 4: Continue to mix for 1-2 minutes before applying.
Note: Standard mix ratio: add 2 lbs of Silt Stop to 1000 gallons of water. DO NOT EXCEED a mix ratio of 1 lb of Silt Stop per 300 gallons of water as the viscostiy of the resulting mix may affect spraying efficiency or cause equipment damage.
Application of Mix
Apply the mix to the soil surface at 3000 gallons per acre.
Note: Proper dust suppression requires the surface soils to remain 'moist'. Applications of water may be needed to maintain this condition. The use of the Silt Stop 'mix' will not be needed for all water applications as the 'mix' will continue to function for an extended period [approximately 1 to 4 days depending on site conditions].
Dust Stop Enhancement
Significant reductions in water applications will result by mixing Dust Stop into the top 2" of surface soils or aggregates prior to the initial application of the Silt Stop mix. Simply apply and mix 200 to 300 lbs per acre of Dust Stop into the surface soils or aggregates. 'Tighten' the soil surface via light equipment passage and then apply the Silt Stop 'mix' per the above instructions.
