Geopro® Sediment Retention Barriers [SRB] effectively trap suspended solids removing them from within slow moving water columns. SRBs are water-permeable – allowing stormwater runoff to pass while trapping soil particles as they attempt to move through with the water. The resulting discharge water is significantly clarified while the construction site remains relatively dry - no long term water ponding results as is necessary for the functioning of other BMPs such as straw bales and silt fences.
SRBs utilize several components to achieve the synergy of first filtering coarse suspended particles and then trapping finer sediments utilizing organic fibers and Silt Stop® soil binders. While SedimentSTOP® is best suited for minor sheet flow applications, Geopro SRBs provide similar results for more demanding conditions: perimeter silt fence ponded water releases, low area water releases, pump discharges, etc. When used in conjunction with appropriate erosion control BMPs, sediment retention barriers provide the final water clarification needed for release of acceptable site water.
The SRB style shown below uses PCI stock items, being composed of modified silt fences and additional system materials. Click on the image to open a larger graphic file. Site conditions may allow alternatives to this silt fence based system.
